AGM Luncheon Meeting ~ Thursday 17th May 2012

The next luncheon Meeting is on Thursday 17th May. This will be an AGM but the formalities will be very brief.

One item will be the acceptance of the revised RVPA Constitution.

Draft copies have been made available to all members since the October Meeting.

The Committee of Management for the coming year will also be elected.

Guest Speaker: Tony Ross

Tony is well known to all of us as a colleague with lots of skills and a great sense of adventure. He will have numerous tales to tell, particularly about his recent work in International schooling in Dubai.

Want a Free Lunch?

There is no such thing as a free lunch they say. However, the Committee has decided to dangle additional carrots before your eyes in the hope that you invite and bring along a potential new member to the Association. Both the member and the guest will enjoy a free lunch.

Eligible members are / were members of the Principal Class in Victoria, irrespective of the division in which they worked. Assistant Principals are included.

Memorial Service for Ron Major and Eulogy by Dr Vern Wilkinson

An emotional Memorial Service took place this afternoon, during which family members and Vern Wilkinson reflected on a life led to the full, with great benefits to immediate family, sport, innumerable school children and educational staff over more than 40 years. Vern concentrated on Ron's role as Acting principal of Doveton and Executive leader of the Doveton Cluster of schools at a time when Principal Vern was serving the role of President of the VPPA. He could not have left the school to a more able and conscientious Deputy. Ron was a dedicated educator and retired as Principal of Mulgrave PS a couple of years ago.

Jenny, your reflections on your married life with Ron, was a wonderful tribute. The promises to "look after Jenny" were numerous and fulfil Ron's dearest wish.

Ron Major's Passing on Boxing Day

Vern Wilkinson was the bearer of the sad news that Ron Major died today ~ Boxing Day 2011.
Ron was Vern's Assistant Principal at Doveton some years ago and a close bond persisted over the years.

Ron suffered a recent set-back in his fight against cancer. He was determined to share Christmas Day with his family.

We extend to Jenny and Ron's family our sincere condolences. Ron was a great educator and a wonderful friend.

Ron is featured in a few of our photos of RVPA events.

Ron participated recently in our visit to Mill Park Heights PS and the Migration Museum Tour

Memorial Celebration for Park Shiel ~ Of Somers Camp fame.

Park Shiel, who died aged 73 on 22nd November, had his life and achievements celebrated today at Somers Camp. The RVPA was represented by Committee member John Solomon. John suggested that about 300 people were present in the Somers camp Cinema for a lengthy and emotional exchange of views on the very significant impact Park has had on physical education and camping, particularly on the more needy childen in our schools.

Many of our members have had dealings with Somers Camp and Park during their principalships. Park was a member of the RVPA until recently and spearheaded the Mornington Retired Principals Group. Thanks Park and rest in peace.

A Celebration Service for the Life of Brian Williams

A Significant number of RVPA members travelled to Geelong today to participate in a moving tribute to Past President Brian.
His life's achievements and talents were considerable and his children and grandchildren did him proud.

It was a moving celebration of a life led to inspire the best in others.

Thanks Brian for your model of living life to the full and your utmost consideration for others.

Our condolences and best wishes go to Jean and family.

Past President Brian Williams died on Tuesday 22nd November 2011

Brian's wife, Jean, has just advised us of the death of Past President and RVPA Life Member Brian Williams in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 22.

Jean has kept the Committee informed of Brian's medical condition for some time and we thank her for that.

Brian had been diagnosed with lung cancer some time ago, but this had been managed well. Then the heart caused problems leading to a recent heart operation in Geelong Hospital.

At this stage it was discovered that the lung cancer had penetrated other tissue. Brian, with the support of his family decided to forego further chemo etc.

Brian passed away, peacefully, with his family at his side.

Much will be written about Brian later.

We know him as a great teacher, inspirational leader, talented musician, lover of art and a financial wizard.

A Memorial service is planned for Monday, November 28 at 2.00pm
at St Luke's Uniting Church,
174 Barrabool Rd. in Highton (Geelong)

Draft RVPA Constitution

At the October General Meeting a draft RVPA Constitution was handed to each member present.

All interested members have access to a printed copy by contacting J.Ragas by email.

The Constitution will be officially endorsed at the May 2012 AGM.
